BRUNSWICK, Me. - The Women's Track team blew away the competition on Saturday at the Bowdoin College Invitational. Facing the host Polar Bears as well as regional rivals Springfield College, Smith College and Gordon College, Tufts scored 256 points, while second place finisher Bowdoin had 163.
Leading the Jumbos was junior Jessica Trombly (Nashua, NH) with three wins during the meet. Trombly won the 55 meter hurdles in 8.79 seconds, the 800 meter run in 2 minutes, 15.17 seconds, and the Long Jump with a jump of 16 feet, 2.5 inches.
The Jumbos swept the first four spots of the Long Jump. Coming in second behind Trombly was freshman
Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA), who jumped 15-7 1/2. Sophomore Melissa Graveley (Schenetady, NY) took third with a jump of 15-6 1/4 inches and senior
Zerlina Maxwell (Millburn, NJ) took fourth with a jump of 14-11 1/4 inches.
Bloom also earned a victory in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.62 seconds. Graveley took top spot in the High Jump with a height of 5-1. Classmate
Sika Henry (Upper Montclair, NJ) took second in the High Jump with the same height. Sophomore
Katie Antle (Cincinnati, OH) earned first place in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet 6 inches.
The Tufts Relay teams were unstoppable and took first place in all three relays. In the 4x200 the Jumbos finished with 1:50.72, and in the 4x400 they crossed the line in 4:04.98. In the 4x800 they finished in 10:03.08, 0.34 seconds ahead of Bowdoin.
