SOMERVILLE -- Behind stellar defense, the Tufts University Jumbos notched their second consecutive shutout to start the season, defeating the Connecticut College Camels 2-0 in NESCAC women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Kraft Field.

The match was scoreless through the first half, but the Jumbos dominated the play on both sides of the ball, out-shooting the Camels, 8-1. Tufts broke through in the 55th minute when junior Cara Cadigan (Nahant, MA) took a pass from freshman Lauren O'Connor (Dudley, MA) and proceeded to hook a right-footed shot from the edge of the 18-yard box that glanced off the inside of the left post and into the corner of the net. The goal was her second of the season, and 21st of her career in just 20 career games.

Later on in the 84th minute, Jumbo first-year Alyssa Von Puttkamer (Park City, UT) tallied her first career goal after she buried the ball into the upper left corner of the net. The second Jumbo goal was assisted by junior Fanna Gamal (Albany, CA).

Connecticut College could not get any offense going throughout the day, as they only recorded one shot. Tufts used the combination of junior Kate Minnehan (Hopkinton, NH) and sophomore Hannah Jacobs (Mill Valley, CA) in goal en route to the shutout with neither keeper making a save. Camels junior keeper Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, MA) notched four saves in the first half for the Camels. Junior Bailey Andrews (Pembroke, MA) made three saves, but allowed both Jumbo goals in the second half.

Tufts has begun the season 2-0 overall and 2-0 in NESCAC play and Connecticut College falls to 2-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the NESCAC. The Jumbos return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they take on Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. at 4:30 pm. The Camels next match is also Wednesday at 7 pm against the Coast Guard Academy.
