WALTHAM, Mass. - Senior captain Alle Sharlip (Kenfield, CA) tallied the game's only goal in the first 10 minutes of play today as the Tufts University women's soccer team hung on to defeat host Brandeis University, 1-0, on Gordon Field.

Tufts won its fourth straight, improving to 7-2, when the ball eluded Brandeis freshman goalkeeper Mari Levine at the front of the goalie box. Tufts sophomore midfielder Sarah Gelb (Hermosa Beach, CA) collected it and sent it to Sharlip, who deposited the game-winner at the 8:26 mark.

Tufts controlled play for the rest of the first half, out-shooting the Judges, 15-2. Brandeis applied some pressure early in the second half, but could not put one past Jumbo sophomore Meg McCourt (Rochester, NY). Freshman forward Rachel Koffman had the Judges' best chance midway through the second half when her shot hit the crossbar and spun towards the goal line, but McCourt pounced on it before it crossed completely.

Brandeis has dropped three straight one-goal games. Tufts, ranked ninth in New England this week, travels to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent Trinity on Saturday.
