MEDFORD – Sophomore Jess Trombly (Nashua, NH) scored 40 seconds into the game and then again with just one second remaining in the game as the Tufts women's soccer team overpowered Gordon College, 3-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

Tufts, which improved to 4-2 overall, posted a 34-6 advantage in shots, including 17-2 in the second half. The score may have been more lopsided if not for good work by Gordon junior goalkeeper Anna Stempien (Trumbull, CT), who finished with 18 saves.

Trombly's unassisted goal just 40 seconds into the match gave Tufts a 1-0 lead. Though they maintained heavy pressure, that was the score at halftime. Seven minutes into the second half, junor Elizabeth Tooley's (Syracuse, NY) first goal of the season following a cross from freshman Lindsey Wolejko (East Lyme, CT) gave the Jumbos a 2-0 lead. Tufts then had two goals disallowed in the second half before Trombly's second of the game and third of the season came as time expired.

Senior goalkeeper Mara Schanfield (St. Paul, MN) made four saves to record her first shutout of the season and the third of her career. The win also helped Tufts get back on track following a 3-0 loss at Colby on Saturday. Gordon (5-3), which was led by sophomore Lindsey Benson's (Andover, NH) four shots on offense, lost its second in a row. The win was the sixth straight for the Jumbos in their series against the Scots.
