MEDFORD – Senior co-captain Lynn Cooper (Wilton, CT) and junior Alle Sharlip (Kentfield, CA) combined for two quick, early goals that sparked the host Tufts University Jumbos to a 3-1 victory over the Connecticut College Camels in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

The win lifted Tufts to 3-0 in the NESCAC and was their third straight win overall. Connecticut College dropped to 1-2 in NESCAC and 2-2 overall.

Just five minutes into the game, Sharlip sent Cooper in on a break-away and the team's leading scorer for three straight seasons converted for a 1-0 Tufts lead. Just four minutes later Cooper returned the favor. Her pass set up reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Sharlip's shot to the lower left corner of the goal for a 2-0 advantage.

The visiting Camels were able to recover and gained the momentum. They cut the Tufts lead in half on the first collegiate goal by freshman midfielder Christa Thoeresz (Portland, OR). She scored unassisted with a shot from way out that landed in the lower left corner of the cage.

Offensive opportunities slowed down in the second half. After the teams combined for 14 shots in the first half, only six were taken in the second. Tufts was able to pad their lead when sophomore Jess Trombly (Nashua, NH) received a perfect pass from senior Becky Mann (Ridgefield, CT) to the left of the goal and directed her first of the season into the net late in regulation.

Tufts senior goalkeeper Mara Schanfield (St. Paul, MN) remained undefeated in her career (5-0) with seven saves in the victory. Senior tri-captain Laura Knisely (Great Falls, VA) stopped four balls in the Camel net.
