WATERVILLE, Me. -- The Tufts University women's soccer team, winners of three straight NESCAC games entering a conference tilt at Colby, were shutout by the White Mules, 3-0, on Saturday. The loss drops the Jumbos (3-2 overall) to third place in the NESCAC at 3-1.

The hosts gained the momentum with the opening goal in the 18th minute by Stephanie Hicks. The score remained 1-0 deep into the game until Colby put it away with a goal in the 78th minute by Christine O'Donnell and another eight minutes later by Lauren Gremelspacher.

Tufts put more shots on goal than Colby, 18-14, but White Mule keeper Abby Kussell was excellent with 11 saves. Tufts' 6-4 edge in corner opportunities is another example that they had chances, but could not convert. The Jumbos had scored eight goals in their previous three games before this first shutout loss of the season.

Head Coach Martha Whiting's team has a non-conference game against Gordon on Kraft Field Tuesday (Sept. 25) at 4 pm. They return to NESCAC action at Bates (4-1, 1-1 NESCAC) next Saturday (Sept. 29).
