MEDFORD -- Senior tri-captain Sara Yeatman (Santa Monica, CA) scored off her own rebound in the 29th minute, and the Tufts defense held visiting Babson College to seven shots, as the Jumbos posted a 1-0 victory in their 2000 season opener on Saturday afternoon.

Yeatman headed a pass from freshman Cara Glassanos (Hingham, MA) to the goal that was deflected by Babson sophomore keeper Jackie Biro (Boca Raton, FL). Yeatman collected the rebound and scored to give Tufts a 1-0 lead. That was all the Jumbos would need, as senior tri-captain Randee McArdle (East Nassau, NY) made three saves in goal to record the 16th shutout of her career. Piro, who tied a school record with 25 saves in a loss to Anna Maria on Thursday (Sept. 7), was excellent again with seven stops for Babson.

The Beavers (0-3) lost their third 1-0 game of the season. Though Tufts out-shot them better than two to one and had a 16-2 margin in penalty kicks, the visitors hung around against the #9 in New England Jumbos. McArdle was forced to make a save against the right post late in the second half to preserve the lead.

The victory stopped Tufts' two-game slide at Kraft Field dating back to last season. They host NESCAC rival Wesleyan there on Wednesday (Sept. 13). Babson is at Simmons on Tuesday (Sept. 12).
