MEDFORD -- During a 12-3-2 season that took them to the NCAA Quarterfinals last fall, Tufts was upset by Anna Maria College for one of its three losses. The Jumbos gained a measure of revenge this afternoon with a 2-0 victory over the Amcats in New England women's college soccer action.

It didn't take Tufts long to set the tempo, with senior Amanda Nagler (Beverly Hills, CA) scoring off a pass from sophomore leading-scorer Lynn Cooper (Wilton, CT) barely five minutes into the game. From there it was all Jumbos, as the hosts outshot Anna Maria 33-4 and posted a 15-0 margin in corner kicks for the game.

Cooper also set up the insurance tally by freshman Elizabeth Tooley (Syracuse, NY), who scored for the second time in as many games during the 62nd minute. The Jumbos had countless threats offensively, but Amcat sophomore goalkeeper Laura Hampson (Mendon, MA) was sharp while finishing with 18 saves. Junior Randee McArdle (East Nassau, NY), the reigning NESCAC Player of the Week, recorded her fourth shutout of the season and 13th of her career with four saves.

The loss stopped a six-game winning streak by Anna Maria (9-2-1), ranked 14th in this week's New England poll. Ninth-ranked Tufts (5-2-1) ran its unbeaten streak to three games. The Jumbos host a talented Bowdoin squad on Saturday (Oct. 9) at 12 p.m.
