BEVERLY -- The Tufts University women's basketball team built an
18-point halftime lead and never looked back, downing Rhode Island
College, 78-44, in the opening round of the Endicott Tip-Off
Invitational Tournament on Friday night in Beverly, Massachusetts.
The Jumbos placed four players in double figures as senior
co-captain Khalilah Ummah (Litchfield, ME) paced the Tufts
effort with 15 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Julia Baily
(Farmington, CT) shot six of 11 from the field for 14 points.
Junior center Katie Tausanovitch (Lyme, NH), playing in her
first game for the Jumbos after transferring from William & Marry,
grabbed 12 rebounds and had eight points in the winning effort.
Rhode Island College was led by Alice Mullen�s (Saunderstown, RI)
15 points on six of 15 shooting. RIC had no answers for the Jumbos
down low, as the Anchorwomen were out-rebounded 54-20, and
out-scored 30-8 in points in the paint.
The victory moves Tufts into Saturday�s EC Tip-Off Tournament
Championship where they will meet host Endicott College at 3:00 p.m.
The Gulls defeated Wilkes University, 84-34, in the late game on
Friday. Rhode Island College will face Wilkes in the Consolation
game at 1:00 p.m.
