Game Box Score
BEVERLY -- In
the first game of the Endicott College Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night,
Suffolk University upset Tufts University, 59-57.
The two teams played back-and-forth for much of
the game. The Rams looked as though they would pull away in the second half as
they took advantage of poor shooting by Tufts, which finished at 35.8-percent
(24/67) from the floor. However, the Jumbos battled to keep it close thanks in
great part to the play of Laura Jasinski (Leverett, MA) and Khalilah
Ummah (Litchfield, ME).
Jasinski and Ummah each posted double doubles for
the Jumbos as they both had 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Rams had three
players score in double digits to lead them to the win. Stephanie
Zito led Suffolk with 13 points and seven rebounds while Katlyn Klecha had 12
points and Stephanie Morrissey had 11 points and added two rebounds in the win.
Tufts was able to hang around despite coming out
cold in the first half shooting 28 percent (10/35) from the floor and nine
percent (1/15) from behind the arch. The Jumbos trailed by two at the half
(28-26) and would match the 31 points put up by the Rams in the second half, but
in the end the Jumbos fell just short as Valerie Krah (Mountain Lakes, NJ) missed
a three-pointer in the closing seconds.
With the win, Suffolk kicks off its season 1-0
while Tufts falls to 0-1. The Rams will play Wellesley College tomorrow at 1:00
pm while the Jumbos will take on Endicott College tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 pm
to wrap up the EC Tip-Off Tourney.
