WATERVILLE, Me. -- Junior Khalilah Ummah (Litchfield, ME)
came off the bench and had 17 points and seven rebounds to pace the
Tufts University women's basketball team to a 71-62 win over Colby
College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play
Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Tufts will head into the NESCAC playoffs with a 16-7 overall record
and an 8-1 mark in the league. That is their best-ever finish in the
conference, good for second place behind Bowdoin. Colby finishes its season at 6-17 and
1-8 in the league. The Jumbos will host Middlebury College in the
first round of the Conference Tournament next Saturday (Feb. 17) at
3:00 pm. The Mules did not qualify for the tournament.
Tufts shot nearly 52 percent from the field in the first half in
taking a 36-27 lead at the break. The Mules got as close as six
points a few times in the second half, but were unable to get any
closer.
Senior Valerie Krah (Mountain Lakes, NJ) finished with 16
points and five assists for the Jumbos, while classmate Taryn
Miller-Stevens (Avon, CT) had six points, six rebounds and six
assists. Junior Jenna Gomez (Norfolk, MA) added 11 points and
six rebounds, Libby Park (Massena, NY) had six points and
nine rebounds and Kimberly Moynihan (West Hartford, CT) had
eight points. Colby got a
collegiate-high 20 points on 8 for12 shooting and nine rebounds from
Lauren Duval (Shrewsbury, MA). Tracy Nale (Waterville, ME) added 17
points in her final collegiate game, Katie McCabe (Watertown, CT)
had 10 points and Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, MA) finished with
eight points. #
