BOSTON, MA - The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball Team (10-1)
outlasted Tufts University on Tuesday night, 72-64. The battle
featured nine lead changes and six ties. The Saints trailed by one
at the break (24-23), but battled back in the second half,
outscoring the Jumbos, 49-40.
Freshman guard Iman Davis (New Britain, CT) led four players scoring
in double digits for the Saints. Davis hit for 15 points, grabbed 8
rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and gathered 3 steals in 31 minutes
of action. Senior forward LaTeisha Johnson (Dorchester, MA) recorded
a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Junior
guard Jade Paez (Bronx, NY) netted 12 points, including a
three-pointer with just under a minute remaining, which sealed the
deal for Emmanuel. Freshman forward Tommia Davis (Gloucester, MA)
chipped in with 10 points and 7 boards for the Saints.
The Jumbos were led by junior forward Khalilah Ummah (Litchfield,
ME) with 21 points on 7 for 11 shooting. Junior guard Jenna Gomez
(Norfolk, MA) and sophomore guard Kimberly Moynihan (West Hartford,
CT) chipped in with 12 and 11 points respectively, while senior
guard Taryn Miller-Stevens (Avon, CT) dished out a game-high 8
assists.
The loss was the fourth straight for Tufts, who dropped to 7-5
overall. They open their NESCAC season at Amherst on Friday night.
Emmanuel is back in action next Monday, when the Saints host
the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College at 5:30pm.
