WELLESLEY - Senior Jessica Powers (Massapequa, NY) of Tufts University scored the 1,000th point of her career in the second half of play and the Jumbos defeated host Wellesley College, 66-42, in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Powers finished the game with 15 points and three rebounds as Tufts improved to 5-1 entering the break for exams. She becomes just the eighth player in Tufts women's basketball's 34 seasons to reach 1,000 points. Sitting squarely on 1,000, she is the first Jumbo to reach the milestone since Emily Goodman did it as a junior in 2002.

In the first half of play, Tufts took an early lead going up by as much as 15 points. Wellesley finished the half with a six-point point push at the end and the Jumbos led 29-20 at the break.

Wellesley came out in the second half scoring five quick points before Tufts went on a 28-6 run to take control. Wellesley tried to crawl back scoring 11 points in the final four minutes of play, but Tufts strength from freshman Kimberly Moynihan (West Hartford, CT) was to much for Wellesley to overcome. Moynihan finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Leading Wellesley's effort was Sefi Adasi (Rockville, MD) with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Wellesley dropped to 2-6 overall.

Tufts will travel to San Diego later this month for the Surf 'n Slam tournament.
