MEDFORD – Senior Jessica Powers (Massapequa, NY) led four Jumbos in double figures with 15 points as Tufts University earned a 64-44 non-conference women's basketball victory over Gordon College on Tuesday night at Cousens Gymnasium.

Tufts, which improved to 2-0, also received 10 points apiece from junior point guard Marilyn Duffy-Cabana (Amesbury, MA), junior forward Laura Jasinski (Leverett, MA) and sophomore wing Jenna Gomez (Norfolk, MA). Powers also led the Jumbos with seven rebounds, while Duffy-Cabana sank three three-pointers.

Gordon (1-2), who never led in the game, got good efforts from junior forward Beth Pinkham (Waldoboro, ME) with 14 points and freshman Mariwyn Light (Lancaster, PA) with 13 points and six rebounds.

The Jumbos built a 28-20 lead at halftime. Leading by just one (19-18) with 7:29 to go until intermission, they closed the half with a 9-2 run. Jasinski had eight points at the break for Tufts and Pinkham had seven for the Fighting Scots.

A three-pointer by Gordon's Joy Huseland (Lebanon Township, NJ) early in the second half made the score 31-23 Tufts. On the next Tufts trip down the floor, Jasinski scored on a jumper and the Jumbo lead would be in double figures for the rest of the night. Jasinski's basket was the start of an 11-0 run that moved the Tufts lead to 19, 42-23, at 15:34 of the second half. Three unanswered three-pointers by Powers, Gomez and Duffy-Cabana spurred the run that put the game away for Tufts. The final 20-point margin was the largest of the game.

The Jumbos got assists from eight different players, led by three apiece from senior tri-captain Katherine Miller (Bangor, ME) and freshman guard Kim Moynihan (West Hartford, CT). Jasinski, who scored on five of eight shots, also corralled six rebounds. Tufts had a 39-29 advantage in rebounds overall. They shot 50 percent (12/24) in the second half, including seven of 12 from three-point territory after missing their three long-range attempts in the first half.

Junior Amy Dodd (Vestal, NY) hit two three-pointers for the Fights Scots to score six points. Freshman Sarah Weeks (Prospect, CT) led Gordon with three assists.
