FITCHBURG -- Senior tri-captain Jessica Powers (Massapequa, NY) and junior Valerie Krah (Mountain Lakes, NJ) combined for 31 points and nine three-pointers as the Tufts University women's basketball team earned a 58-55 victory at Fitchburg State College on Saturday afternoon.

With the win Tufts (6-4) stopped a three-game losing streak, all against quality competition at the Surf 'N Slam Tournament in San Diego in late December. The Falcons dropped to 7-4 with the loss, their first in three games.

Powers hit four three-pointers and finished with 16 points. Krah netted five trifectas for all of her 15 points. Together the pair was 9 for 21 (.429) from beyond the arc.

Junior Libby Park (Massena, NY) continued her good post play of late by scoring in double figures for the third time in the last six games with 10 points, sinking 5 of 6 shots. She also had six rebounds. Sophomore Khalilah Ummah (Litchfield, ME) added six points, six rebounds and four steals. Tufts finished with a large 42-29 advantage in rebounds, with sophomore Jenna Gomez (Norfolk, MA) adding seven.

The hosts were led by D'Yana Delpero with 18 points, three assists and two steals, however she committed 10 turnovers. Nicole McMahon hit three three-pointers and scored 13 points for Fitchburg, The Falcons out-scored the Jumbos 15-3 at the foul line.

Fitchburg led 29-28 at the half, but Tufts overcame the hosts for the victory in the second half. Senior tri-captain Julia Verplank (Zeeland, MI), who finished with five steals, hit two big free throws down the stretch.
