MIDDLETOWN, CT -- Host Wesleyan outscored Tufts, 22-9, over the opening 9:30 of the second
half to erase a seven-point halftime deficit and move on to a 65-60 victory in New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action on Friday night.
The run, led by Nora Bowman's seven points, gave the Cardinals at 50-44 lead, and the margin would neer drop below three points the rest of the way. The loss eliminated Tufts from the NESCAC tournament that starts on Tuesday. The Jumbos (9-13) fell to 1-7 in NESCAC play, not good enough for one of the seven berths into the playoffs. Wesleyan (15-8, 3-5) is still alive, needing a win on Saturday against Bates.
Wesleyan never led by more than six points, while Tufts held a 27-18 lead during the first half. The Jumbos were led by junior Erin Harrington's (Fall River, MA) 16 points, which included four three-pointers. Junior Emily Goodman (Briarcliff, NY) put up 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. The winners were led by 15 points each from Amy Posocco and Bowman.
The Jumbos finish their season on Saturday at Connecticut College, which is winless in conference play.
