PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Saint Lawrence University, the fifth-ranked team in this week's d3hoops.com national poll, ran away for the Tufts Jumbos in the second half to post a 74-48 victory in the first round Alumnae Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Tufts was in the game at halftime, trailing 35-26. The Saints pulled away in the second half and move on to face host Manhattanville in the championship game on Sunday afternoon. Tufts will face City College of New York in Sunday's consolation game.
Tufts junior Erin Harrington (Fall River, MA) led all scorers with 16 points for the Jumbos, who fall to 1-2. Freshman Dein Rhoades (Oceanside, NY) added 11 points. The Saints triple-teamed Jumbo leading scorer Emily Goodman (Briarcliff, NY) and limited her to six points with seven rebounds.
Nicole Leary and Meredith Eisenhut each scored 15 points to lead St. Lawrence. Eisenhut, who was named the UCAA Guard of the Week on Monday, added five rebounds, six steals and three turnovers for the Saints, who improve to 4-0 on the season. The Saints outrebounded Tufts 42-31 and had 16 turnovers to 25 for the Jumbos.
