CAMBRIDGE -- Junior Emily Goodman (Briarcliff, NY) scored 17 points with 12 rebounds to lead the Tufts women's basketball team to a 68-55 victory at MIT in basketball action between these Greater Boston schools on Thursday night. The win was the second straight for Tufts (7-5).

The Jumbos never trailed in the game, taking the lead for good at 8-6 on a basket by junior point guard Hillary Dunn (Medfield, MA) at 14:59. Tufts led by as much as 12 points in the first half, 32-20, following two free throws by sophomore Erin Buckley (East Sandwich, MA). Their lead was 32-25 at the break.

Host MIT pulled within five points three times in the second half, the latest at 36-31 on a basket by Amy Mok at 16:05. A quick 6-1 run by Tufts, with two baskets by Goodman, restored the Tufts lead to 10, 42-32, at 13:49. Five straight points by senior co-captain Jayme Busnengo (Buzzards Bay, MA) put Tufts up by 15, 49-34, at 9:50, and their lead was double-digits the rest of the way.

Busnengo joined Goodman with a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Erin Harrington (Fall River, MA) was on the verge of one with 11 points and nine rebounds. Buckley had 11 points, six rebounds, two blocks.

MIT put four players in double figures, led by 13 points from Megan Daugherty. Crystal Russell had 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Tufts begins its NESCAC schedule on Saturday (Jan. 19) at Bates. Tip-off is 3 pm.
