PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Junior Emily Goodman (Briarcliff, NY) hit a pair of free throws with four seconds left on the clock to give the Tufts women's basketball team a 79-78 victory over the City College of New York in the consolation game of the Alumnae Tournament at Manhattanville College on Sunday afternoon.
It was a tight battle throughout, with CCNY holding a 37-36 lead at the half. The Lady Beavers had hit two free throws with 16 seconds left in regulation to take a 78-77 lead. Tufts got the ball to Goodman on their final possession, and she was fouled setting up her pair of freebies.
Junior guard Hillary Dunn (Medfield, MA) came up big for the Jumbos, playing all 40 minutes and scoring 11 points (three three's) with five assists. Goodman finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Devin Rhoades (Oceanside, NY) submitted a second-straight fine performance with six points and seven rebounds. Tufts was 13 of 14 from the free throw line in the second half. CCNY was led by the duo of Samantha Halpern (26 points) and Lauren Cargill (25 points), who combined for 51 points and 14 rebounds.
The Jumbos play at Regis on Tuesday (Dec. 4) looking to get over the .500 hump.
