MEDFORD – Under-manned Regis and host Tufts staged an excellent game on Tuesday, with the Jumbos pulling out a 67-59 victory in New England college basketball action. Sophomore center Emily Goodman (Briarcliff, NY) scored 29 points to lead the way for Tufts, who improved to 3-1. Regis, who played just six players, is better than its 1-4 record indicates.

Goodman had 15 at the half as Tufts managed a 31-28 lead. Freshman forward Kate Gluckman (Morrisville, VT) added eight points and six rebounds, while Regis' Kathy Barberi had half of her team's points with 14.

The Jumbos opened the lead to 48-36 following a three-pointer by Maritsa Christoudias (Saddle River, NJ) at 11:15. Within less than three minutes, that lead was down to 48-47 at 8:30 when Helen Dinan scored for Regis. The visitors then gained a 51-50 lead on Barberi's basket at 5:39.

There was excitement down the stretch. The Jumbos took the lead for good, 57-56, on a basket by Gluckman with 2:47 left. Regis was within four, 63-59, on a three by Christa Wirth at 1:03. But the Jumbos closed it with a Goodman basket with 49 seconds left, then a block and rebound by Christoudias at the other end that sealed the win.

Christoudias finished with 11 points and five rebounds for the Jumbos, who also got 10 and 7 from Gluckman. Barberi had 21 for the Beacons.
