MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Senior co-captain Molly Baker (Northfield, MA) scored 18 points and matched that with 18 rebounds as the Tufts women's basketball team continued its fine season with a 53-45 victory at Wesleyan in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action on Friday night.

The Jumbos improved to 12-5 overall and earned their first NESCAC win of the season. Wesleyan lost its fourth in a row to drop to 8-11 overall and 1-5 in NESCAC.

For the seventh time this season the Jumbos held an opponent under 50 points scored. The Tufts defense kept Wesleyan to a 26.4 field goal percentage for the game, including 18.9 in the first half when the Jumbos took a 29-19 lead. Tufts closed the first half with a 13-1 run to gain that advantage.

Wesleyan cut the lead to one in the second half, 35-34 with 11:20 to play. The lead varied from three to eight down the stretch with Tufts protecting its lead and improving to 4-1 in February. Baker became just the eighth player in team history to get 18 or more rebounds in a game. Freshman Erin Harrington (Fall River, MA) logged big minutes and contributed seven points and two steals to the Tufts attack. Wesleyan got 13 points, five assists and six steals from Lynn St. Martin.

The Jumbos play at 3-15 Connecticut College on Saturday at 3 pm.
