MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Tufts Jumbos led by 19 at the half and sailed to a 64-37 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology in New England women's college basketball action on Monday night. The 37 points scored by the visitors were the fewest allowed by the Jumbos since November of 1995.
Every Jumbo played at least nine minutes and 10 figured in the scoring, led by senior co-captain Molly Baker (Northfield, MA) with 16 points. Senior Karen Robator (Bedford, NH) was excellent off the bench again with eight points and 10 rebounds. Tufts, which improved to 11-5, took 81 shots and pulled down 67 rebounds. Wentworth, which had no one score in double-digits, had just 11 total field goals and finished with a 17.2 shooting percentage (11-64). The Leopards lost their third straight and dropped to 9-10 overall.
The visiting Leopards had an early 7-6 lead, but a 28-4 run gave the Jumbos a 34-11 lead on sophomore Jayme Busnengo's (Buzzards Bay, MA) layup with two minutes to go until halftime. Nine different Jumbos scored during the surge, and the game was effectively over. Wentworth did put together a 10-0 run in the second half, but it was too little, too late.
