NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Tufts Jumbos opened a 31-16 lead at the half and cruised to a 65-51 victory at Smith College in New England women's college basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Emily Goodman (Briarcliff, NY) led the way with 18 points, connecting on eight of 14 field goal attempts and grabbing nine rebounds. Senior guard Melissa Harvill (Elk, WA) canned six of nine shots for 12 points to go with three assists, while senior co-captain Molly Baker (Northfield, MA) had a tidy eight points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

The Tufts defense was the key to the game. The forced Smith into 29 turnovers, with junior guard Shira Fishman (Silver Spring, MD) making four steals. The Jumbos limited the Pioneers to just 22 shots in the first half while taking 40 themselves, allowing for the big lead at the break.

Tufts opens its New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) schedule at home versus Colby on Tuesday (Jan. 18). Tip off is at 7 pm.
