MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior co-captain Heather Langlois scored 14 of her game-high 19 points in the second half as the visiting Middlebury College Panthers posted a 62-51 victory over the Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Tufts lost for the first time in six games and dropped to 14-6 overall and 3-4 in the league. It was Senior's Day as the Jumbos recognized Molly Baker (Northfield, MA), Meghan Brown (Newmarket, NH), Melissa Harvill (Elk, WA) and Karen Robator (Bedford, NH) for their four years of hard work. Middlebury then spoiled the occasion, recovering from a big loss at Bates on Friday night to improve to 15-6 overall and 5-3 in the NESCAC.
The Panthers led 28-27 at the half and built the lead to eight points twice in the second half with the help of two Langlois three-pointers. Middlebury was up 49-41 following a put-back by junior guard Megan McCosker (Lafayette, CA) with 6:23 left. Tufts then scored the next seven points and trailed by just one, 49-48, after a three-pointer by junior co-captain Meghann Gill (Blaisdell, NY) at 3:56. The Jumbos would get no closer, as Middlebury made 11 of 12 from the line in the last three minutes to seal the victory. The Panthers scored the last eight points of the game.
Tufts was led by 18 points and nine rebounds from freshman Emily Goodman (Briarcliff, NY), while Baker added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Dawn Trowbridge added 10 points and seven rebounds to the Middlebury attack.
