FALLER, PAGEL & ENGELKING QUALIFY FOR NCAA
CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEK
MEDFORD -- Three members of the Tufts University
men's outdoor track & field team will be in Marietta, Ohio this week
for the 2009 NCAA Division 3 Championships. Senior quad-captain
Skip Pagel (Mystic, CT) and junior Jared Engelking
(Westborough, MA) are both in the NCAA field for the decathlon,
and junior Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA) will compete in the
5,000 meter run.
The NCAA meet will be hosted by Marietta College
beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday (May 21-23).
Pagel and Faller are making their second appearances at the NCAA
Outdoor Championships, while it will be the first time for Engelking.
Pagel is ranked second out of 17 entrants in the
decathlon. He scored a school-record 6,871 points in the event at
the All-New England Championships hosted by UMass May 8-9. He will
be looking to surpass his sixth-place total of 6,656 points at the
2007 outdoor championships. Engelking enters NCAA's ranked ninth
with the 6,582 points that he scored at the New England Division 3
meet at Springfield College April 30-May 1. The NCAA decathlon
starts on Thursday with the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high
jump and 400 meters. Friday's five events are the 100-meter hurdles,
discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meters.
Faller's 14:26.01 time in the 5K that he ran at
Princeton University's Larry Ellis Invitational on April 17
qualified sixth for the 2009 NCAA meet. That race is scheduled for
Saturday at 3:55 pm. Faller was 13th in last year's NCAA 5K with a
15:04.45 time.
