MEDFORD -- With three repeat award winners and three newcomers, the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team placed six competitors on the 2009 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference Team announced today. The honor is presented to the top three finishers in each event at the conference championship meet, which was held this past Saturday at Connecticut College.

Juniors Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA/Westborough) and Phil Rotella (Louisville, KY/Ballard) both earned All-NESCAC in two events. Engelking won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.04 seconds and was the runner-up in the javelin throw (175'1"/53.37m). Rotella had the best combined finishes in the sprints, winning the 200 in 22.47 seconds and placing second in the 100 with an 11.16 time. Rotella was a three-time conference honoree last season. Engelking is All-NESCAC for the third straight year, totaling four events.

Junior Jessie Faller (Burlington, MA/Burlington) is also a three-time NESCAC award winner. His third in the 1,500 meters (3:56.74) this spring was his fourth All-Conference honor.

Junior quad-captain Nick Welch (Seattle, WA/Lakeside), sophomore Alex Gresham (Milton, MA/Milton) and sophomore Sam Read (Barkhamsted, CT/Northwestern) were the first-time All-Conference winners. Gresham was second in the hammer throw with a distance of 164'9" (50.22m). Welch took third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:40.51.
