FIFTEEN ATHLETES, COACH BARRON GAIN ALL-NESCAC
TRACK & FIELD HONORS
MEDFORD -- The Tufts University men's outdoor track
& field team placed second at the 2008 New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships hosted by Hamilton
College last Saturday (Apr. 26). The strength behind the team's 183
points scored was its depth, which is reflected in the 15 Jumbo
competitors who have earned All-NESCAC honors for finishing among
the top three in their events at the championship meet.
Also, for the third straight year, Tufts coach
Ethan Barron has been selected by his peers as the conference's
men's track & field Coach of the Year. He has now been the NESCAC's
Coach of the Year in each of the three seasons he has been on the
job at Tufts since he was hired prior to the 2005-06 campaign.
Junior Phil Rotella (Louisville, KY) led the
Jumbos with three All-NESCAC honors. He was third in the 100 meter
dash (11.09 seconds), second with the 4x100-meter relay (42.63
seconds) and was part of the 4x400-meter relay that was third
(3:22.27).
Five Jumbos were top three in two events. Senior
quad-captain Dave Sorensen (Dover, MA) won the 3,000-meter
steeplechase (9:10.73) and distance medley relay. Sophomore
Trevor Donadt (Northborough, MA) won the 400-meter hurdles
(54.33) and was second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.01 seconds).
Sophomore Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA) won the 5,000 meters
(15:10.22) and finished second with the distance medley relay
(10:16.27). Colin Fitzgerald was third individually in the
200 meters (22.52) and also ran in the 4x100 relay. Sophomore
Andrew Longley (Short Hills, NJ) earned two honors with the
4x100 and 4x400 relays.
The Jumbos earning single All-Conference honors
included two more champions, sophomore Ikenna Acholonu
(Shoreline, WA) in the 110 hurdles (14.95 seconds) and junior
James Bradley (Atkinson, NH) in the high jump (1.96m). Runner-up
efforts by sophomore Billy Hale (Menlo Park, CA) with the
distance medley relay, senior quad-captain Dan Marcy (Middletown,
NY) in the triple jump (14.53m) and sophomore Marc Soskin
(Minnetonka, MN) in the 4x100 relay were recognized. The long

Arak (Ipswich, MA), who placed third in the high jump (1.91m),
sophomore Scott Brinkman (Alamo, CA) for running in the 4x4,
