MEDFORD -- The Tufts University Jumbos outslugged the Williams College Ephs, 14-12, over the course of two days in Game 4 of the NESCAC Championship that finished Sunday morning at Huskins Field. This contest began on Saturday afternoon before it was suspended in the bottom of the fifth due to rain.

Tufts (30-5) moves onto the championship game of the NESCAC's against either Williams, Wesleyan or Bowdoin later on Sunday. Bowdoin and Wesleyan are completing their suspended game from a day ago on Sunday morning at Huskins Field as well. The winner of that contest will battle Williams for the right to take on Tufts in the championship game.

The Tufts-Williams game was even after the first two innings as Tufts scored first on an RBI single by RF Chase Rose (Scottsdale, AZ) in the first inning. Williams tied it up in the top of the second on an RBI single by SS Cameron Susk (Woodside, CA). The Ephs took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a run-scoring double by 3B Taylor Mondshein (Larchmont, NY).

The Jumbos gained control of the game in the bottom of the fourth when they scored four runs on three hits including a two-run single off the bat of sophomore 1B Matt Collins (Hopkinton, MA). Rose also drove in a run in the inning with a single.

Tufts added eight more runs over the course of the next two innings on 10 total hits to take a 13-4 lead. Sophomore 3B Sam Sager (Cranston, RI) had an RBI double in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth. Junior 2B Frank Petroskey (Dallas, TX) chipped in with an RBI triple in the fifth, while senior LF Nate Bankoff (Lynnfield, MA) had a two-run single in the sixth inning.

Williams erupted for seven runs of their own in the seventh, closing the gap to 13-11. Junior RF Pat Barren (Worthington, OH) doubled in a run, Mondshein hit a two-run single, and Barren came up again in the seventh and delivered a two-run single.

The Jumbos added an insurance run in the eighth as Rose drove in his fourth RBI of the game on a double. Williams CF Stephen Maier (Orange, CT) stroked a lead-off homer for the Ephs in the ninth, but it was not enough as Tufts held on for the 14-12 decision.

Junior Derek Miller (Whitman, MA) went the first five innings for the Jumbos before the suspension, and he earned his fourth victory of the year. He allowed two runs on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Sophomore Chris DeGoti (Miami, FL) earned his 11th save of the year, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing one run with three strikeouts.

William starter Paul Burgdorf (Latham, NY) was issued the loss, dropping to 2-4, after he went just 3.2 innings giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks, four strikeouts and four hit batsmen.
