MEDFORD -- The Tufts University baseball team scored three runs
without a hit in the bottom of the eighth inning to go from trailing
8-7 to winning 10-8 against Colby College in the opener of a
three-game NESCAC East Division series on Saturday afternoon at

five-run fifth inning. In that frame, senior co-captain Ryan Conlon
(Ridgefield, CT) singled home a run and scored, sophomore 3B Mike
Mastrocola (Soutbury, CT) doubled home a run and scored, and senor
2B John LaMantia (Gates Mills, OH) had an RBI single and scored.
Tufts battled back to 8-7 with three runs in the sixth. Junior 2B

Goldberg's two-run double to left-center in the third had given
the Jumbos a 4-2 lead. He finished the day 2 for 4 with three RBI
and a run scored. Petroskey was 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run out
of the ninth spot. Junior CF David Orlowitz (Wakefield, MA)
was 2 for 4 and scored two runs for Tufts.
Colby out-hit the Jumbos 16-10. Conlon was 3 for 5 with two RBI
and a run, Mastrocola went 2 for 5 with two RBI and a run, sophomore
SS Brandon Nieuw (Port Chester, NY) finished 2 for 5 with two runs
and an RBI, and senior LF Ken Kaufman (Lexington, MA) was 2 for 5
with a run and an RBI.
Bernstein got the win for Tufts, which improved to 13-3 overall
and 3-1 in the NESCAC East. Sophomore Chris DeGoti (Miami, FL)
secured his fifth save, allowing just a two-out single in the
ninth. The Jumbos have won nine out of their last 10.
Freshman Nathaniel Sugarbaker (Milton, MA) took the loss for
Colby, which dropped to 9-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference. A
six-game winning streak by the Mules came to an end.
