GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In the second game of a day-night
double-header on Tuesday, the Tufts Baseball team dropped a 17-3
game at Greensoboro College under the lights at War Memorial
Stadium. The Pride scored seven runs in the fourth inning and eight
more in the fifth to blow the game open.
Michale Parker went 4 for 6 with a home run and six RBI as
Greensboro handed the Jumbos (4-1) their first loss of the year. GC
improved to 8-16 and knocked 13 hits in the game. Tufts committed
four errors and gave up seven unearned runs.
The Jumbos, who won 9-1 at Averett earlier in the day, took a 2-0
lead in the top of the first. Junior CF David Orlowitz
(Wakefield, MA) and sophomore 3B Sam Sager (Cranston, RI)
hit back-to-back triples. Sophomore catcher Matt Collins
(Hopkinton, MA) singled home Sager. In the fifth, junior DH
Ben Walkley (Trumbull, CT) hit an RBI double. Sager and Collins
each finished with two of Tufts' nine hits.
GC starter Jacob Cadle (Denton, NC) got the win. He threw 6 2/3
innings, allowed three runs, struck out nine and walked three
Jumbos. Brandon Matthews (Chesapeake, VA) then allowed just one hit
in 1 1/3 innings. Ethan Ellington (Eden, NC/Rockingham County High
School) pitched a perfect ninth inning for Greensboro.
Josh Montague (Greensboro, NC) went 3 for 5 for the home team.
Thomas Fulcher (Chesapeake, VA) and Tyler O'Neill (Columbia, MD)
both had two hits in the contest.
Tufts is at Methodist on Wednesday for a 4 pm start. GC hosts
Oglethorpe for a doubleheader that begins at 1 pm on Wednesday.
