ASHLAND, Va. -- After losing three of their first four games, the Tufts baseball team has put it together on their spring trip. A 13-11 victory at Randolph-Macon College on Friday afternoon evened their record at 4-4. The Yellow Jackets fell to 12-8 overall.

Tufts led R-MC 13-1 after six innings. They scored five runs in both the third and fifth innings. In the third, a two-run double by junior 3B Ari David (Lincoln, MA) was the key hit. When he scored on a single by junior CF Dave Katzman (North Andover, MA), the score was 7-1. The five-run fifth featured seven Tufts singles. Sophomore C Alex Perry (Danvers, MA) and freshman Ian Goldberg (Lake Forest, IL) each hit RBI singles and scored during the inning. Katzman tripled home a run in the sixth.

Tufts sophomore starter David Gibbs (Harrison, NY) held the Yellow Jackets to one run through six innings, but the hosts mounted a comeback in the late innings. They chased Gibbs with three runs in the seventh for a 13-4 score. Sophomore Bryan Hannum doubled home a run and scored in the inning. After scoring a single run in the eighth, R-MC scored six times and got the tying run on base in the ninth. With Tufts holding a 13-11 lead, sophomore reliever Jordan Goldberg (Westborough, MA) bore down and got a ground-ball force-out to end it. Cory Jackson hit a two-run single in the ninth for the Yellow Jackets.

Tufts had 24 hits in the game. Jumbo senior 1B Steve Ragonese (Upper Saddle River, NJ) had five hits in the game, while Goldberg finished 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBI. David continued to contribute with a 3 for 4 day and scoring three runs, while Katzman also had three hits.
