Game Box Score

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist Monarchs took an early lead before finishing with a 14-3 victory over Tufts University in college baseball action Wednesday. Methodist moves to 17-7 overall while Tufts drops to 2-4 this season.

Sophomore Landon Jordan started on the mound for Methodist, retiring the first three batters to leave room for the Monarchs to take the lead. Freshman Brian Inghram started things off with a ground-rule double over the right field fence. Senior Scott Russell laid down a bunt single moving Inghram to third and sophomore Seth Kivett's single through the left side scored Inghram. Junior Kenly Locklear sacrificed both runners and junior Brad Davis' sacrifice fly allowed Russell to tag up and score. Junior Billy Quinn followed up with a double to left center for Kivett to score the third run of the inning.

The Jumbos came back and led off with a home run by senior 1B Steve Ragonese (Upper Saddle River, NJ), and moved another runner to third base but left him stranded. The Monarchs came up empty in the second, but scored two runs in the third after Locklear got things going with a single through the left side of the infield. He stole second and scored on another double from Quinn. Junior Dustin Proctor hit a double of his own to score Quinn for the 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, senior Michael Carter reached on an error and scored on a home run from Russell. Kivett followed up with a home run and Locklear followed up with a single through the left side. Davis singled and Quinn loaded the bases after reaching on an error. Proctor singled through the left side allowing Davis and Locklear to score. Carter came back to the plate and singled to load the bases again. Inghram hit his second double of the day to score Proctor and Quinn for a 12-1 lead.

Methodist senior Kyle Eudy hit a home run in the sixth before freshman Chase Rose (Scottsdale, AZ) of Tufts hit a two-run home run in the seventh making it  13-3. Freshman David Leresche (St. Louis, MO) was hit by a pitch before him. For Methodist, a double from sophomore Brian Halpin in the eighth allowed freshman Tripp Lancaster to score the Monarchs' 14th run of the game.

The Monarchs used five pitchers in the game with Jordan earning the win in three innings of work allowing just one run on four hits. Junior Elliott Bisplinghoff gave up one hit in three innings. Freshman Jack Dilday (Long Beach, CA) was the lone Jumbo to have a scoreless outing, pitching the seventh.

Methodist's Locklear finished 3 for 3 from the plate while Inghram went 3 for 6. Inghram, Russell, Kivett, Quinn and Proctor each tallied two RBI a piece.

Tufts continues its spring trip on Thursday afternoon at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Monarchs will travel to Greensboro Friday at 3 pm for the first game of the USA South series.
