GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Tufts University baseball
team defeated Greensboro College, and snapped The Pride's four-game
winning streak, with a 10-6 victory at War Memorial Stadium on
Tuesday night. The Jumbos improved to 2-3 on their annual spring
break trip.
Senior Adam Telian (Stoughton, MA) improved
to 1-1 by tossing seven innings for the Jumbos, allowing seven hits
and two runs. Ken Gilliland (1-2) took the loss
for GC (17-9).
Tufts had a 5-0 lead after two innings and 7-1 after
three. Junior 3B Ari David (Lincoln, MA) singled home a run
and scored in the second and was hit by a pitch and scored in the
third. He crossed home plate three times overall in the game. The Jumbo lead was 9-2 heading to the eighth frame
following an RBI single by sophomore 1B Corey Pontes (Milford,
MA) in the seventh. The Pride rallied with four runs in the
eighth inning, all scored with none out. GC got the tying run to the
plate, but could not score again. Jumbo freshman DH Chase Rose
(Scottsdale, AZ) added a run-scoring single in the ninth.
Pontes went 4 for 6 with a run and an RBI for the
Jumbos. Sophomore 2B Nate Bankoff (Lynnfield, MA) had two
hits and two RBI, while sophomore C Alex Perry (Danvers, MA)
had two hits and scored twice.
Dale Martin had a huge night at the plate for GC. He
went 2 for 3 with a run and three RBI. Jacob Tomb and Alex Guerra both
recorded two hits in five at-bats. Catcher Jeff Guerrie knocked a
home run for The Pride.
Both teams committed 5 errors apiece in the contest.
