WATERVILLE, Me. -- The Tufts baseball team finished off its NESCAC East Division schedule with a 9-1 victory at Colby College on Sunday afternoon. The win earned the Jumbos a three-game sweep of the Mules.

The two teams had to sit out a rain delay, but were able to get in a full nine innings as the Jumbos moved to 22-8 overall and 10-2 in the NESCAC East. Colby fell to 7-19 overall and 2-9 in the league. Tufts will head into the NESCAC tournament May 11-13 as the East Division winner.

Sophomore LF Eric Catalanotti (Grafton, MA) singled with two outs in the second and scored, then senior 1B Nick Curato (Cumberland, ME) drove home a run with a sacrifice fly in the third and Tufts led 2-0. The Mules cut the lead in the half in the fourth when DH Andy Carr (Conway, NH) singled, stole second and scored on a single by 1B Corey Martin (Winslow, ME).

The Jumbos pulled away with two runs in the fifth, three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to lead 9-1. Senior shortstop Brian Casey (Milford, MA) singled home runs in the sixth and seventh, and freshman catcher Alex Perry (Danvers, MA) scored in both of those innings.

Junior Jason Protano (Milford, MA) worked seven innings to pick up the victory for Tufts, allowing six hits and one run. Perry had three hits and scored twice, while sophomore CF Dave Katzman (North Andover, MA) had a hit and walked four times for Tufts. He also scored twice. Brian Casey and Kevin Casey (Milford, MA) each had two hits for the winners.

Craig Cooper (Trumbull, CT), Ryan Conlon (Ridgefield, CT) and Brian Liberty (Hollis, NH) all had two hits for the Mules.
