MEDFORD -- Tufts and Williams, two of the top teams in the NESCAC's East and West Divisions, respectively, split a double-header on Saturday afternoon at Huskins Field. Jumbo freshman DH Corey Pontes (Milton, MA) had RBI singles in the third and fifth innings as Tufts took the first game 7-3. The nightcap, which was scheduled for seven innings, was won by Williams in 10 after freshman 3B Robin Allemand (Fort Lauderdale, FL) doubled home a run.

Tufts sent nine men to the plate in the third and fifth innings in the opener to build a 7-1 lead. Sophomore CF Dave Katzman (North Andover, MA) doubled home a run and scored in the third. Junior RF Steve Ragonese (Upper Saddle River, NJ) singled home two runs in the fifth. Jumbo starter Derek Rice (Braintree, MA) pitched into the sixth before he ran into trouble, but the Jumbos got solid relief from seniors Carlos Lopez (Brooklyn, NY) and Brian Casey (Milford, MA) to hold the Ephs. Pontes finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while senior 1B Bryan McDavitt (Holden, MA) had two hits and scored two runs for the winners.

The Ephs led 2-0 after three innings in the second game, with senior SS Paul Morgan (Essex Junction, VT) driving home runs in the first and third innings with singles. An RBI double by McDavitt, followed by a two-run home run from Ragonese (his sixth) vaulted the Jumbos in front 3-2 in the fourth. Tufts held that lead until the seventh, when Williams strung together three straight hits to start the inning including an RBI single by junior 2B James Dicosmo (Fair Lawn, NY) to tie the score at 3-3. The teams played three extra innings until Allemand, who entered the game in the eighth, hit his second straight double to bring home Morgan, who had led off with a single. Eph senior Sam Tuttle (Concord, NH) allowed a walk in the bottom of the 10th, but got Ragonese to ground out to end the game.

Morgan finished game two 3 for 4 with two RBIs for Williams (11-5). Lead-off man Kevin Flynn (Concord, MA) and senior Ryan Fote (Wethersfield, CT) both had two hits and scored a run for the Ephs. McDavitt was 2 for 4 for Tufts (13-5).
