Game Box Score
Jordan Goldberg pitched four innings of one-hit relief for Tufts, lowering his era to 1.23

MEDFORD -- The Tufts Jumbos scored 10 runs on seven hits and one Massachusetts Maritime error in the bottom of the second inning, leading the way to a 17-7 victory over the Buccaneers in a non-conference college baseball game at Huskins Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Jumbos (11-4) were down 5-0 at the start of the game when the Bucs (5-4) put together six hits in the top of the first inning. Sophomore RF Robert Kent (Groton, CT) tripled home a run and scored a run during the rally. However, the Jumbos answered with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the score. Tufts stole six bases in the inning, tying for fourth-most in NCAA Divison III history according to the 2006 record book (2006 season not included). It would be the New England record for stolen bases in an inning if it was not topped last year.

MMA went ahead 6-5 when junior CF A.J. Garstang (Southington, CT) hit a two-out triple and scored on a single by senior 2B Calvin Rinck (Cape Elizabeth, ME) in the second. Tufts would send 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second. Eight of the runs would score after two were out. During the barrage, senior DH Nick Curato (Cumberland, ME) and sophomore CF Eric Catalanotti (Grafton, MA) had RBI doubles, and junior RF Steve Ragonese (Upper Saddle River, NJ) hit a two-run triple. Tufts led 15-6 after two innings and the game was an hour-and-a-half long already.

The teams would combine to score only three runs the rest of the way. Junior LF Gabe Stallions (Wareham, MA) hit a run-scoring single in the fourth for the Bucs. A pair of doubles by brothers Brian and Kevin Casey (Milford, MA) brought home the 16th Tufts run in the sixth, and the Jumbos manufactured a run in the eighth.

Ten pitchers were used in all, including six on the MMA side. Sophomore Alex Babbin (Brunswick, ME) did a good job settling the Tufts bats down, pitching 2.1 hitless innings for the Bucs. Tufts got four innings of one-hit relief from freshman Jordan Goldberg (Westborough, MA), who struck out six.

Kevin Casey was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs for Tufts, while older brother Brian added a 2 for 5 day with three runs. Senior 1B Bryan McDavitt (Holden, MA) finished 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Ragonese (2 for 6), who had seven RBIs in the Jumbos' last game against Bates, added three more for 10 in back-to-back games.

Rinck led MMA at 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs. Garstang was 2 for 4 with two runs, while Kent, Stallions and sophomore SS Mark Mozelak (New Hartford, CT) each had two hits and an RBI.
