Game Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. -- Tufts University scored four runs in the top half of the 10th inning to break a 2-2 tie and go on to a 6-3 win at Randolph-Macon College Friday afternoon. With the win, Tufts improves to 4-4 on the season while the Yellow Jackets drop to 11-8-1. The victory stops a three-game skid for the Jumbos.

Jumbos starter Adam Telian (Stoughton, MA) and Jackets' starter Charlie Hartt locked up in a pitching duel that saw neither pitcher surrender a run over the first five innings of play. Tufts scored the first two runs of the game in the top half of the sixth inning when senior 1B Bryan McDavitt (Holden, MA) led the frame off with a double and scored when junior DH Steve Ragonese (Upper Saddle River, NJ) homered off R-MC reliever Ryan Gramlich to make the score 2-0.

The game stayed that way until the ninth inning when Greg Meleski doubled with one out for the Yellow Jackets and then came home after Hartt doubled to plate the Jackets' first run. Senior Derek Rice (Braintree, MA) replaced Telian with two outs, but Joey Crawford delivered an RBI single that brought pinch-runner Scott Zymet home to tie the score.

The Jumbos responded by plating four runs in the next half inning off R-MC reliever Devin O'Meara. Ragonese led off with a single and scored on a double by freshman DH Corey Pontes (Milton, MA). The big hit came off the bat of Brian Casey (Milford,  MA), who singled with two outs to score two runs and then scored himself on a single by sophomore LF David Katzman (North Andover, MA).

Casey then took the rubber in the bottom half of the 10th inning and collected the victory despite allowing one run. Casey, sophomore INF Kevin Casey (Milford, MA), Ragonese, Pontes and freshman catcher Alex Perry (Danvers, MA) all had two hits for Tufts, while Katzman finished 3 for 5. The Jumbos had 15 hits in the game overall. Telian went 8.2 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs in a no decision.

Sophomore SS Bruno Gora, sophomore 3B Greg Meleski and senior 2B Joey Crawford all collected two hits for the Yellow Jackets. Hartt struck out seven Jumbos and allowed four hits and no runs in five innings pitched.
