MEDFORD – The Tufts baseball team completed NESCAC East Division play with 12-4 and 15-3 victories against Colby College on Saturday afternoon at Huskins Field. The Jumbos (19-12 overall) finished 9-3 in the league and will play in the NESCAC Tournament May 12-14. Colby dropped to 9-20 and 2-10 in the league and will finish their season next week.

Tufts had 29 hits in the two games combined, including five each by junior 2B Brian Casey (Milford, MA), junior 1B Bryan McDavitt (Holden, MA) and senior CF Jim O'Leary (North Easton, MA). McDavitt hit a home run in each game and finished the day with eight RBIs. Casey scored four runs and batted in five. Sophomore Adam Telian (Stoughton, MA) and junior Derek Rice (Braintree, MA) started and earned wins on the mound for the Jumbos. Tufts was 9 for 9 on stolen base attempts in the double-header, including three each by Casey and junior LF Kyle Backstrom (Worcester, MA).

Junior Tom Salemy (Odessa, FL) hit a home run in each game for Colby and finished the day with three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs. Sophomore Nick Spillane (Darien, CT) also had three hits for the Mules.

The Jumbos presented Coach John Casey with the 400th victory of his 23-year Tufts career in game one.
