Game Box Score

NORTH DARTMOUTH -- Four Tufts pitchers scattered ten hits and the Jumbos hit three home runs and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team, 7-2, in a non-conference game at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday afternoon.

Brian McDonough's (Hanover, MA) two-run homer in the first staked the Jumbos to a 2-0 lead. Chris Decembrele (Walpole, MA) slammed a solo shot off the back off the Cressy Field stands in the fourth inning, and Jim O'Leary (North Easton, MA) hit a solo homer in the fifth inning. Kevin Casey's (Milford, MA) RBI single in the seventh drove in two more runs for Tufts.

Senior first baseman Dan Mancini (Marlboro, MA) provided the offense for the Corsairs. Mancini's solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning accounted for UMass Dartmouth's first run, and his eighth-inning, run-scoring double that drove in junior designated hitter Will Mahoney (Mattapoisett, MA) accounted for the other.

Carlos Lopez (Brooklyn, NY), the first of four Tufts pitchers, allowed three hits in five scoreless innings and earned the victory, improving to 3-0. Senior right-hander Jason Thompson (West Bridgewater, MA) pitched the first 5 2/3 innings for the Corsairs. He allowed four earned runs and struck out seven and took the loss, falling to 0-3.

UMass Dartmouth fell to 5-20 with the defeat, while Tufts improved to 13-11 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Roger Williams in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon. Tufts hosts a critical three-game set against NESCAC East Division rival Trinity College beginning with a single game on Friday at 3 pm.
