GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Junior 1B
Bryan McDavitt's (Holden, MA) single to left center in the top
of the ninth inning broke a 4-4 tie and gave Tufts a 6-4 win at
Guilford College on Monday afternoon. Coupled with a 15-2 victory
over Maryville College of Tennessee at Guilford in the morning, the
Jumbos finished the day with a 2-2 record.
Senior C Ben Chang's (Chicago, IL)
two-run single in the eighth gave the Jumbos a 4-2 edge, but
Guilford tied it in the bottom of the inning on Josh Fields'
(Kernersville, NC) two-out, two-run pinch-hit homer, his first
college hit.
McDavitt finished the day with three
hits in five at-bats. Freshman RF Brian McDonough (Hanover, MA)
was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Chang and junior CF
Chris Decembrele (Walpole, MA) also contributed two hits for
the Jumbos. Sophomore Adam Telian (Stoughton, MA) worked into
the eighth inning for Tufts, yielding four earned runs and seven
hits. He fanned four and walked two. Sophomore Jason Protano
(Milford, MA), making his third relief appearance of the spring,
earned the victory with 1.1 scoreless innings of work.
Chad Boone (Winston-Salem, NC) came
off the bench for Guilford and went 2 for2. His two-run pinch-hit
double in the seventh gave the Quakers a 2-1 lead. Chris Raines
(Roxboro, NC) worked into the eighth inning for Guilford and gave up
four earned runs and 10 hits. He walked two and struck out eight.
Tufts continues its spring trip at Greensboro College on Tuesday.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:00.
