TIDMARSH LEADS TRINITY OVER TUFTS IN SERIES OPENER, 6-1

HARTFORD -- The Trinity College Bantams, ranked #3 in New England, earned a 6-1 victory over #2 in New England Tufts in NESCAC East action on Friday. Trinity and Tufts were tied atop the NESCAC East with 5-1 records in the league entering the game. Trinity is now 12-6 overall while Tufts dropped to 13-7.
Junior Kevin Tidmarsh (Meriden, CT) threw a complete game for the Bantams, holding the Jumbos to three hits while striking out six and walking three. Tidmarsh runs his record to 5-0 on the year with an earned run average of 2.31. The Trinity offense was once again led by senior captain Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, CT), who went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBI's. Piantek is now hitting .571 on the season with 9 homeruns and 35 RBIs. Sophomores Billy Wise (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Jeff Natale (Hamden, Conn.) also had three hits and an RBI for the Bantams.
A two-run double by Piantek helped Trinity take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Jumbos scored their only run of the game in the fifth to make it 3-1 when freshman RF Matt Clement (Norwood, MA) led off with a double and later scored on a double play ball. Clement had two of Tufts' three hits of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Piantek ripped a two-run home run to give Trinity a 5-1 margin. The Bantams added a single run in the eighth.
Senior Dave Martin (Arlington, MA) went the distance for Tufts, giving up 13 hits and five earned runs. He suffered his first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1.
The teams will meet again on Saturday in a double-header at Trinity.
