WALTHAM, Mass. - The bottom half of the Brandeis University line-up had eight hits, including three home runs and a double, and seven RBI, as the Judges defeated nationally-ranked Tufts University, 9-2, on Stein Diamond today.

Brandeis (12-8-1), ranked eighth in New England, won its fifth straight game by scoring two runs each in the second through fifth innings. Junior SS Lars Borssen (Wells, ME), the No. 9 hitter, led the way by going three-for-four with three RBI and two runs scored. Borssen had a two-run single in the second, a single and run scored in the fourth and a solo home run in the fifth, the second of his career.

The No. 8 hitter, senior 2B Nick Adams (Beverly, MA) was two-for-four with his first career round-tripper, a solo shot in the seventh inning, plus his team-best seventh double of the year in the second. Senior RF Sean Ewers (Old Lyme, CT) was two-for-three with a pair of RBI and his fourth home run of the season in the six hole, while the seven-hitter, grad student C Jeremy Taro (Southbridge, MA), drove in a run in the third inning.

The Brandeis offense came in support of senior pitcher Tom McShane (Manchester, NH) who picked up his fifth win of the season by striking out 10 Tufts batters over 7.2 innings of work. McShane picked up his third 10-K game of the season, scattering five hits and not allowing a run until the eight inning.

Tufts (13-6), ranked second in New England and 21st in the nation entering the game, was led by senior CF Evan Zupancic (Lake Oswego, OR), who went two-for-four with a run scored and a double. Sophomore 1B John McBride (Billerica, MA) was two-for-three, while sophomore David Bishop (Chelmsford, MA) and rookie Matt Clement (Norwood, MA) both picked up RBIs on bases-loaded walks. Sophomore Jeremy Davis (Little Falls, NY) suffered the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season.
