MEDFORD – Senior captain Jason Hinchliffe (New Bedford, MA) allowed just four hits, and junior 2B Mike Dougan (Marlboro, MA) had three hits and two RBIs, as the visiting University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs posted an 8-2 victory over the Tufts University Jumbos in New England college baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Jumbos sent just three batters to the plate in six of the nine innings against Hinchliffe. He did not walk a batter and allowed just two unearned runs in the second inning. Two of Tufts' hits came in the ninth inning. Dougan singled home the eventual game-winning run in the top of the fifth, had another RBI single in the seventh and scored three runs.

Tufts pitchers had control problems throughout the day. The Corsairs scored twice in the top of the second when sophomore CF Jason Orlando (Gloucester, MA) led off with a walk and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by senior SS Guy Furtado (Dartmouth, MA). Freshman Ryan Sullivan (Chicopee, MA) singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Jumbos evened the score in the bottom of the inning when sophomore SS Brian Shapiro (Swampscott, MA) and senior LF Todd Boutwell (Woburn, MA) both reached by error and scored on a double by freshman C Greg Hickey (Medway, MA).

UMD took the lead for good in the fifth. Senior LF Doug Kelsch (Wareham, MA) led off with the first of his two doubles and scored on the single by Dougan, who later came home on a sacrifice fly by senior 1B Brian Ronayne (Bridgewater, MA). The Corsairs added two more in the seventh and another pair in the ninth.
