WILLIAMS at TUFTS- 4/ 8

MEDFORD -- The host Tufts University Jumbos scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to post a 4-3 victory over the Williams College Ephs in the first game of a double-header in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) baseball action on Saturday afternoon. Williams took the nightcap, 7-5.

Tufts trailed, 3-2, entering the bottom of the seventh in game one. With one out, junior LF Todd Boutwell (Woburn, MA) and sophomore RF Dan Callahan (Medfield, MA) stroked back-to-back singles. After a Williams error loaded the bases, freshman 3B Brian Shapiro (Swampscott, MA) singled home Boutwell to tie the score, then freshman CF Evan Zupancic (Lake Oswego, OR) won it with a single to score Callahan. Senior Zack Brown (Melrose, MA) earned the win with seven strong inning to improve to 4-0 overall. Williams scored twice on him after two were out in the top of the first on a single by senior 2B Mike Paolercio (Park Ridge, NJ) and a walk to freshman 3B Austin Lehn (Maplewood, NJ).

Tufts tied the game with single runs in the second, on a sacrifice fly by reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Joe Surprenant (Tewksbury, MA), and in the fifth, when Brown singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Williams sophomore LF Eric Fagan (Milton, MA) had singled home Lehn, who singled, for the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh before the Jumbo rally in the bottom of the inning.
