In the top of the ninth, the first five Jumbo batters reached safely. Third baseman Brian Shapiro (Swampscott, MA) drew a walk off UNCP reliever Jacob Payton. First baseman Tim Ayres (Irvine, CA) and second baseman Cory Dolich (Alameda, CA) both singled, with Dolich's hit driving in Shapiro.
The Braves then brought in their fourth pitcher of the game, Andy Larson. However, Tufts pinch hitter Nick Scola (Worcester, MA) singled home Ayres. Catcher Joe Surprenant (Tewksbury, MA) then walked to load the bases. Center fielder Evan Zupancic (Lake Oswego, OR) then hit a grounder to UNCP third baseman Brett Sears. Sears threw to catcher Josh Robinson to retire Dolich at the plate, but Robinson's throw to first to attempt to complete the double play went into right field allowing Scola to score. Another fielder's choice by shortstop Mike Gray (Teaneck, NJ) scored Suprenant.
The Braves did not go quietly in the bottom of the ninth. Casey Sears singled off reliever Dave Martin (Arlington, MA) to begin the inning. Sears went 5-for-5 in the game, all of them singles. Jason Faucette was then hit by a pitch. After Chris Clark grounded out to second to advance the runners, Robinson hit a two-rbi single through the right side to cut the lead to 7-6. Robinson then advanced all the way to third when the ball was misplayed in the outfield and rolled to the wall.
The next two batters, Tommy Shelton and Trevor Hamaker, could not drive in the tying run, however, as both grounded out to shortstop.
