NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Freshman CF Jason Orlando had four hits and drove in five runs to lead the host University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs to a 13-6 victory over the Tufts University Jumbos in New England college baseball action on Thursday afternoon.
Orlando's double keyed a four-run fifth inning for the Corsairs that turned a 6-5 Tufts lead into a 9-6 UMD margin. He also singled in the seventh when the Corsairs scored four runs in the seventh inning to pull away from the Jumbos. In the first inning, Orlando and 2B Mike Dougan each homered off Tufts freshman starter Jon Lee (Manhasset Hills, NY) to give UMD a 3-0 lead.
Tufts fought back to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the third on a three-run home run by sophomore 1B Tim Ayres (Irvine, CA). The Jumbos went ahead 6-5 in the fourth on an RBI single by senior 2B Zack Brown (Melrose, MA) and a sacrifice fly by freshman LF Evan Zupancic (Lake Oswego, OR). Ayres finished with three hits, two runs and the three RBIs.
