MEDFORD -- Trinity junior Jarrett Bayliss (Williamstown, MA) pitched a three-hit shutout to lead Trinity College to a 1-0 victory over the Tufts Jumbos in first game of a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) double-header on Saturday. Tufts took the nightcap, 8-0.

Game one was a pitcher's duel between Bayliss and Tufts senior Zack Brown (Melrose, MA) that went into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Bantam sophomore 2B Greg Spanos (Auburn, MA) led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by sophomore SS Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, CT). After Brown struck out sophomore LF Alan Andreini (Greenwich, CT), senior 1B Brian Powell (Holyoke, MA) lined a single to center that scored Spanos for the game's only run. Andreini had three hits in the game.

Bayliss, who faced more than three batters in an inning just twice during the game, got Brown to ground out with men on first and second in the bottom of the eighth to win the game. It was the second straight year he shut out Tufts on three hits.
