MEDFORD -- Colby freshman Josh Baranoff (Higganum, CT) tamed the Tufts offense, and the Colby bats produced five runs in an inning twice, as the White Mules won the first game of a double-header 12-3 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) baseball action on Sunday afternoon. Tufts came back to win game two, 4-2.

Colby scored five runs in the top of the first inning in game one. A three-run double by junior 1B Bill Goldman (Brookline, MA) was the big blow. The Mules scored five more runs in the third to lead 10-1, which included a two-run single by junior 2B Andy Tripp (Saco, ME). Baranoff pitched a complete game six-hitter, giving up a run-scoring double to Tufts sophomore RF Dan Callahan (Medfield, MA) in the first and a two-run double to freshman 3B Brian Shapiro (Swampscott, MA) in the fifth. He pitched out of a two on, no out jam in the fourth. Goldman finished with two hits and four runs batted in for the visitors. Callahan had two doubles for the Jumbos.
