MEDFORD -- Freshman Jon Lee (Manhasset Hills, NY) threw a no-hitter in the second game as Tufts University swept a double-header from visiting Bowdoin College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) baseball action on Sunday afternoon. The Jumbos won the first game 10-1 and the second game 3-0.

Lee became the first Tufts pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Jeff Taglienti at Williams College on April 15, 1995. Lee hit Bowdoin sophomore LF Mike Taylor (Marblehead, MA) with a pitch in the fifth inning, or else he could have had a perfect game. The freshman righty struck out six while recording his third shutout of the season. Classmate Brian Shapiro (Swampscott, MA) gave the Jumbos all the offense they would need with a two-run home run in the first, his fifth. Junior LF Todd Boutwell (Woburn, MA) singled and stole second in the third, later scoring on a ground out by sophomore 1B Tim Ayres (Irvine, CA).

The Jumbos jumped on Bowdoin ace Scott Jamieson (Marshfield, MA) for seven runs in the first two innings of game one. Sophomore RF Dan Callahan (Medfield, MA) stroked a two-run double in the first and Boutwell laced a two-run triple in the second. The top of the batting order - senior SS Mike Gray (Teaneck, NJ), Boutwell and Callahan - went 8 for 11 with seven runs scored and seven RBIs. Senior captain Zack Brown (Melrose, MA) allowed just four hits while earning his sixth win. Bowdoin scored its only run of the day in the fifth when sophomore RF Rob Metzler (West Hartford, CT) tripled with one out and scored on a two-out single by freshman 1B Justin Foster (Marston Mills, MA).

Tufts finished its regular season and a five-game winning streak and a 24-11 record. Bowdoin ended the season with a 12-20 record. The Jumbos now await word on whether they will play in the NCAA or ECAC Playoffs.
