HILL, HOLMES POWER BENTLEY TO 15-13 WIN OVER TUFTS

Bentley (3-7 after snapping a four-game losing streak) received outstanding production from the top three in its lineup with sophomore CF John DiGennaro, Hill and Holmes combining for eight hits (six for extra bases), 12 RBI, 10 runs scored and 23 total bases.
All three played key roles in a six-run fifth inning that turned a one-run deficit into a 12-7 lead. DiGennaro put the Falcons in front with a two-run single, Hill followed with a two-run double and Holmes capped the big inning with a home run to right.
The Jumbos closed the gap to 12-10 in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by senior captain Zack Brown (Melrose, MA) and a run-scoring single by sophomore RF Dan Callahan (Medfield, MA). But in the bottom of the inning, Hill and Homes hit back-to-back roundtrippers (Hill's with one on) to account for what proved to be the winning runs. Tufts threatened with three runs in the top of the ninth - the key hits by freshman 3B Brian Shapiro (Swampscott, MA) and sophomore 1B Tim Ayres (Irvine, CA) – but they rally fell short with runners on second and third as the last three batters struck out.
Tufts, which out-hit Bentley 15-12 but stranded 13 on base, received a four-hit game from Callahan, who also had three RBI. Brown (Melrose) also had a big day for Tufts, with three hits and three runs scored.
The Jumbos open their NESCAC and home schedules with a double-header versus Bates on Saturday (Apr. 1) starting at 1 pm.
